Another wet day out in the snow. We did some accident scenarios, talked about choice of route and signs to look for to have a safe day out.

So the weather was quite gloomy today. In the morning we all gathered in our hut for some more theory and then some routeplanning. After this we divided into two groups. One with Gaute and one with Kristoffer. Andrej is also an aspiring instructor. Today I went with Kristoffer's group. Everyone had randonne except for Ivar but he seemed to do ok. One guy did struggle at least when we headed down so it took a bit longer and we didn't have time to do all that was planned. But tomorrow is a new day!

Avalanche course day 1

 

So Friday after work Andrej picked me up at work and we drove straight to Svolvær to attend this course. First evening was short presentation and then theoretics. Then we stayed in a hut me, Andrej and Christer. There were two other from out of town but they rather drove home late at night to come back early tomorrow morning. Weather forecast for this weekend was the worst possible. Rain and strong winds, high avalanche risk.

We intended to hike Guratind today but we thought the snow was hard and easy to walk on and it wasn't so we just kept sinking. That's when we decided to turn around and instead we went to Unstad and made a fire. Such a lovely evening.

Storm

 

Today I stayed indoors. It's dangerous outside. The wind is so strong and the police tells everyone to stay inside. I even got a text from Vestvågøy kommune (the municipality) to stay indoors. Roofs and other things blew off. The boats came partly loose in the wind and parts of the wharf came off. The road was blocked on the other side of the fjord.

I arrived at 9 ready to register with Tina. It was a fun day and after the finals we waited for the pizza which I think was around 8.30 pm. Then we were just a few of us left. Most people went homoe to take a shower and get ready for the movie tonight. Sten-Erik came back to get the kids and said I could come with them to the daycare which is where (most) people from out of town stay overnight. So we had a beer and played some cards then went to see the movie Free Solo with Alex Honnold. After this I got a ride home with Kjartan and it got pretty late...

Friday on my mind

Today I'll just head home and enjoy my friday since tomorrow it's competition day so it will be a long one. All day at the climbing gym, but it's gonna be fun.
