Going home

We got up early, had some coffee and drove to the airport to leave the car. Then we flew to Reykjavik (arriving 5 am) and then Copenhagen where we had to say goodbye...
Then I continued to Oslo - Trondheim - Bodø - Leknes. There was no bus so I called Gyda and she picked me up. Thank god for friends! And thank god I have a day off tomorrow, I need to sleep.

Korea Town and Lemmy's favourite bar

Today we went for korean lunch at Daichan. We went to Eagle Rock homebrew supply to buy some hop with citrus flavour for Rebecca's friend. Then we went to Rainbow Bar which is where Lemmy used to hang out when he still lived. We mixed up the days and had to check out suddenly but found hotel for our last night which was within walking distance to Mohawk Bend. I had the hottest pizza ever. This is a vegan restaurant with only few dishes with meat and those are marked, just so you can bring your meat eating friends along. It's mega popular so you have to stay on a list for about 45 min to 1 hour and then you get a message when your table is ready. This is our last night in LA and tomorrow we fly home.

Joshua Tree

We started driving from LA at 7.40 am towards Joshua Tree - where two deserts meet.

Two distinct desert ecosystems, the Mojave and the Colorado, come together in Joshua Tree National Park. A fascinating variety of plants and animals make their homes in a land sculpted by strong winds and occasional torrents of rain. Dark night skies, a rich cultural history, and surreal geologic features add to the wonder of this vast wilderness.

Then we went to have vegan burgers at:
Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace is a honky-tonk, barbecue restaurant and music venue near Joshua Tree National Park. Accessible from California State Route 62, the restaurant lies four miles northeast of Yucca Valley. In 1946, a group of filmmakers built a Western-style movie set in the high desert 25 miles north of Palm Springs for the cowboy actors Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. Production designers decorated the facades of "Main Street" with a Western saloon, bank, chapel and a cantina. Pioneertown and its cantina were used in more than 50 films and television programs throughout the 1940s and 1950s. John Aleba and his wife Francis purchased the building and John further developed the property into a cantina.

Griffith park

Today we went hiking in Griffith Park which is one of the largest (4210 acres) municipal parks with urban wilderness areas in the United States. Then we had lunch at Ramen Hood, where they make this vegan ramen with vegan egg (!) which looks very similar. According to Munchies; One of LA's best Ramen Bowls is totally vegan! "It's wildly tasted broth - thickened with sunflower seeds and it's sinewy, pork-like oyster mushroom nubs are so good that it just might make you give up pork."

The most impressive part of Ramen Hood's ramen, however, is its freakishly realistic vegan egg. The tender whites are made with local soy milk and agar agar, which is poured into an egg mold. The runny yolk is made out of beta carotene, nutritional yeast, B-vitamins, sodium alginate, and black salt. The yolks are frozen, and Khopkar makes a fresh calcium chloride bath every morning to form a skin around every orb. Finally, he dips each into hot water to temper them and keep them from melting at room temperature.

In the evening we went to Gracias Madre, which is a plant based mexican restaurant.
