Trollfjordhytta

Happy shining sunday! I went out when everyone else still sleeping. I was too restless and it was a beautiful morning. I only intended to go for a small hike just up the closest hill but the lure of the mountains is always stronger so I went further to Isvasstinden and almost to summit. I got stuck just meters below summit and couldn't find the way. I tried three different ways but none of them felt safe so I thought I better return down for breakfast because I'm gonna get hungry soon. (This can only mean that I must come back to this magic place again). When I came down just after 10 am, everyone was awake and we had breakfast. Now I was really hungry! Then we wrote in the book and cleaned up the hut before going down to our kayaks.

Trollfjorden

A dark, narrow sheet of water below jagged peaks and impenetrable mountain walls, only accessible from the sea.
Troll Fjord is famous for the Battle of Troll Fjord which took place here in 1880. The battle was between fishermen in steam-driven fishing boats and fishermen in ‘fembøringer’ (boats with sails and oars for five oarsmen). Huge quantities of fish had swum into the fjord and the fishermen in the larger boats were trapping them in a seine formed from their fishing nets, to the exasperation of the crews on the smaller boats.
Friday after work I went with Tine-Lise to Leknes. We met up with Geir-Steinar, Remi and Marcela. Packed our stuff in the car and went to Tennstrandneset. We unloaded the kayaks, packed those and headed for Trollfjord. It was dark when we arrived in this magic place. We put the kayaks on shore and walked the path up to Trollfjordhytta. First part we walked on a pipe, that felt pretty weird and unsecure in the dark with only our head torches. It took us 1,5 hours. It was an awesome starry night. On the way up I realized I didn't eat anything since 12, but some squares of chocolate kept me going! And the cabin was so cozy! We made fire and started cooking dinner. They were eating whale and I made something vegetarian. Saturday I was the first one up (as usual) and I went to fill a bucket of water for coffee and some washing up. Then I went up a small hill and down again. Remi and GS had made coffee and were about to leave. Remi needed to go back and GS went to meet 5 other persons coming up today. I had breakfast while I waited for Marcela and TL to wake up. Then we headed for Blåskavltinden, 975 m. We came down in the afternoon just before GS came back with the others. I lit the fire in the cabin and the others lit the sauna. I don't care much for sauna so me and Marcela took an evening stroll. Then we all had dinner together.

Beautiful surroundings.

Gjermesøya

"Tradveggen". (The traditional wall).
Today I was supposed to go hiking with Gyda after work but it was cancelled so instead I had a look around in my neighbourhood, Kraemmervika and Gjermesøya to look for the tradroutes. I walked around the whole island before I finally found the right wall! It does have potential but it looks like it hasn't been frequently visited lately so it might be a good idea to bring a brush when I finally go climbing there...

Hermannsdalstind

Friday I was all packed and got a ride to work with Beate since I had so much stuff it was easier than bringing it on the bike. I took the bus after work to meet up with Sigvald in Svolvaer. There was a plan A(Stetind) and plan B (Hamarøyskaftet) due to unsteady weather forecast and then we thought of plan C, to camp underneath "Only hilberries" a classic multipitch route I wanted to do for a long time. But since the weather forecast looked really depressing we skipped all plans of climbing and instead went to Munkebu cabin in Moskenes. We collected the key at "Matkroken" (a grocery store) in Sørvågen and started walking in the rain. It was really dark when we finally arrived at Munkebu. But it was such a nice cabin and we made a fire and cooked dinner. We had one bottle of red wine (should have brought more...) but someone nice had left two cans of beer! Next day it was nice and clear and we headed for Hermannsdalstind (took us approximately 6 hours up and down from the cabin).  It was a really nice hike in beautiful surroundings (as everything else here in Lofoten). Just after we arrived at summit the mist came closer and closer until we could hardly see anything.

All the other ones
Companion rescue...
It all went well...
Today it was time for my first meeting with Vestlofoten Kajakklubb! I went home after work and packed my stuff then headed for Leknes, where I met up with Geir Stenar and we drove to Steine where the boathouse is. The wind got a lot stronger but we managed anyway. Everyone except me and TL had drysuits and they were all very playful, rolling and jumping up and down the water. I've never seen anything quite like it. (I wanna have a drysuit too!) Then we came ashore and had picnic together in the twilight before we went back and Geir Stenar left me to pick up my bike in Leknes. Now it was pitch dark outside but it was a refreshing windy ride back to Ballstadøya. I was home at 9.45 pm
