The 17th of May is Norway's Constitution Day and is celebrated with parades and festivities. Many attractions are closed on this day. I had a vision to camp at Mengelsdalstinden (826 m) a peak with a lot of snow in the wild west but weather forecast mentioned storm so we changed the plan to walk over a really low mountain to a simple hut in Stokkvika. We braved the storm but when we almost reached the highest point we realized the wind was too strong and it was not possible to go any further so we turned around and went to Selfjordhytta. To our luck I just received the DNT-key in the mail friday afternoon. Andreas brought a norwegian flag but the storm took it. It was really nice to get inside the cabin, make a fire, take of the wet clothes and make dinner. I had made a cake since it was Andreas birthday yesterday. On sunday the weather was really good and we went up Litljordskaret to Litljortinden (678 m). Actually I wanted to see if it's possible to get up the peak named Kjerringa which is the last peak just before the ocean but we couldn't see it from there and you would have to cross a ridge and it looked like we could use a rope for that part as well. But it looks really cool when you see it down from Kvalvika. Then we went to see Martin and Merete and the showed us their new house at Ramberg. Lovely house with a lot of work to do. Then we went back to Vestvågøya and made dinner in a windshield! The upcoming week will be a lot of overtime for Vesterålen probably every day...
