Arriving Skjervøy

I woke up at 9 am (!) that's so unlike me...I had some tea and swedish cracker while talking to Antje who was heading for the Lyngen Alps. Then I also met Vincent from France who was working at Vertshuset Skarven for two weeks and still staying at the camping since he didn't find another place to stay yet. He followed me over the bridge and showed me all the important places, then I left my backpack at his work and went to the tourist information, library, bus station to get the Troms card and to Globus Kafé to eat something before the ferry. I had some ethiopian vegetarian dish and a Mack beer (Haakon) that was really good! I went to buy a sim-card to get myself a norwegian number. And then it was time for the ferry (hurtigbåt which is not to be confused with hurtigruten) to Skjervøy. I just realised that i lost my extra bikelock...On deck I met Signe who is working at the ambulance. We were the only ones that were out on deck, everyone else was inside. I just learned there was also a bus but it would be twice as long and I would have to change and load all my stuff once more so I decided for the ferry. I was outside during almost the whole boat trip, totally captivated. Then I got too cold from the wind and went inside. The ferry stops at Finnkroken, Arnøy and some other place I can't remember. We passed the mighty Lyngen alps.

Finally arrived at beautiful Skjervøy and packed everything on my bike once more. I met a polish girl who was really nice and pointed out the health center (Helsestasjonen) where I will be working. She was so nice, lived here for a year but still didn't speak norwegian. She said there was a fishing camp where I might put my tent. I finally found it but was not allowed to pitch my tent there. There I met a woman who also worked in healthcare and she was so upset on my behalf even though I said I don't mind sleeping in my tent and I'll find a spot. She wanted to make some calls and was very determined so I had to give her my number. Then I found a lovely spot on the outermost of the pier. So I pitched my tent and made myself dinner. Then I enjoyed the lovely views and the warm evening sun. And I thought I'll watch this fantastic view until the sun sets....then it struck me that the sun never sets because it's midnight sun here. So I'll better sleep now. Then I got a phone call from Marianne, a nurse from my new work. She said she would come to get me and I told her she didn't have to, I'll se her tomorrow. Then she told me there is a door open at the back from 7 am if I need shower or toilet tomorrow. Everyone is so nice!
