Today was going to be eventful! First we had breakfast at Lucie's Lodge with amazing view. There was nothing but bread and coffee for vegans so we asked for some vegetables and got some wonderful salad, tomato, avocado and lemon. Some of the other guests also wanted the same but we got special treatment. Then we went to see one of the waterfalls but were not allowed to go down to the beach, since the area was closed. Most hiking trails were closed (due to winter storm damage) due to landslides most areas were high danger. We sent a card to Caroline who lives in the east. Then we went to Deetjens Big Sur Inn just to look at the cool place and have a coffee. If I ever come back I would definitely wanna stay here. Then we had lunch and we found one short hike down to the ocean. We also went to Henry Miller's memorial library which also was a cool place where you could have a look at some books or some art or play ping pong, have a cup of coffee or tea and relax on the veranda with an interesting book. Cuddle with the cats, concerts etc.
Today we wanted to continue south by following the coast line but again; the road was closed due to landslide and one part opened temporary at 6 pm for passing. Then we had to drive high over a mountain pass on winding roads to get further south, heading for Morro Bay. As we came over the pass, we were stopped by the police (!) it was just like in the movies with sirens. - Miss, do you know the californian law? We had been driving too fast but we were lucky and he was nice so we only got a warning and no ticket. We were also looking for a gas station since we were running low on fuel. The first one we found (this was in the middle of nowhere), it had a sign saying; sorry, we're empty. Then we stopped and asked someone and got directions. It was a bit further than what our car said the fuel would last....and due to road maintenance and confusing signs we ended up taking a wrong turn so we ended up in some weird side road seemingly out in nowhere, in the dark. It was getting late and now we were stuck. Then came one car and I waved but the passed, then came Ray in the second car. He was our angel tonigh and stopped. We explained the situation and he asked if we had a cannister? We didn't but we got into his car and he drove to the gas station (we bought one and filled it with gas), then back to the car and fill enough to get us there. Then we followed Ray (so we wouldn't get lost again) and finally we got to fill up the car with gas. Now we just need some place to stay for the night. We drove into a small town called Paso Robles, where we asked someone and he said I have a friend, I will call him, it's really close. It was actually so close that we could see the sign from where we stood! We thanked him and went there. It was like one of those really cheep motels like in the movies. But nothing wrong with it, just not very cosy.
