This morning it was difficult to explain to Irena about vegan breakfast. We got some tuna and some jelly dessert!? And the coffee was loaded with sugar today. We stayed in La Habana Vieja which is the like the old town. Old Havana is a UNESCO world heritage site, the past is palpable. Rumba riffs roll through quaint cobbled squares, vintage cars ply the streets and historic forts, museums and beautifully restored architechtorial gems share the stories that shaped this grand city.
La Floridita is famous for it's daiquiris and for having been one of the favourite hangouts of Ernest Hemingway in Havana.
The Hotel Nacional de Cuba is a historic luxury hotel located on the Malecón. It stands on a hill a few metres from the sea, and offers a view of Havana Harbour, the seawall and the city. Among its first illustrious guests were artists, actors, athletes and writers such as Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Buster Keaton, Rocky Marciano, Errol Flynn, John Wayne, Marlene Dietrich, Gary Cooper, Marlon Brando, Ernest Hemingway and Jean-Paul Sartre. .
