Arriving Havana
I flew via Amsterdam (2 hours) and then to Havana almost 11 hours. I was nervous before I left about many things. About their currency, they have two different. One for the tourists and one for cubans which is worth about 4 times less so you need to be careful not to accept that for change. Also how to get cash. Cuba is a country with cash. But my friend Ørjan went here in the summer so he told me about how some of the things work. But it all worked out quite well one could say...
First of all now there are more tourists than ever coming to Cuba. The airport is chaos. Took ages to come trough immigration and then about two hours waiting for bags. We found Rebecca's in the middle of the floor. She came an hour earlier than me. If you asked some of the workers about the baggage from Amsterdam they just lifted their shoulders and walked away. But finally we found one which lead us to the other end of the airport with to more places. There were luggage spread all over the place. I guess it was not just us that didn't understand their system. Luckily my backpack was there and we could finally go and find a taxi.
Just to be sure I had booked 4 nights in an apartment, at least that's what we thought...when the taxi arrived to the address there was nothing with that name. But no worries our taxi driver just shouted to some people on the street and suddenly we have a room! I was relieved that we had a place to stay since we just arrived and it was dark. So we ended up in our first "casa particulares" as they are called. (By the way I just got my money refunded from the place where I booked).
