Blåtind in Vågan

(Some pictures taken by A Christiansen.)

We found an interesting snow chute and headed up to the summit of Blåtind. When we came down we went home to Andreas sister, Øystein and little Olav. We made dinner and stayed the night.

Today is winter solstice - the darkest day of the year (or shortest if you prefer).
The solstice is an astronomical event, caused by Earth's tilt on it's axis, and it's motion in orbit around the sun. For us on the northern part of Earth, the shortest day comes at the solstice. After the winter solstice, the days get longer, and the nights shorter. It's a seasonal shift that nearly everyone notices.
