Vikten

We braved the weather today because we had to get out and so we went to Vikten. I've been curious about this place for some time.

In the middle of Lofoten, between steep mountains and the ocean just beyond, is the "Glasshytta" at Vikten. A place where the Arctic Ocean rolls in and grinds rock into beautiful sculptures, and where the midnight sun colors the landscape in warm shades.

In 1977 Åsvar Tangrand started with glassblowing as one of the first in Northern Norway. Gradually glass production had abode in the "Glasshytta", a beautiful building close to the magnificent scenery around.

the cormorant is the brand for the blacksmith in Sund.)

"A few years ago, school children came around the mountains from the small district on the outer side, Vikten to the school at Napp. But the people at Vikten belonged to a small and very rare church. One day this church was allowed by the government to start their own private school, despite protests in neighboring villages. One such gulp in the number of pupils at Napp could deplete the public schools said the opponents. They were also afraid that a private school would further isolate the children in this remote village. Children from the "Guds Menighet" are not allowed to play with or meet worldly children. But after "Guds Menighet" in Vikten got started with the school it became quiet, and today perhaps Vikten is rather more famous for it's glassblowing than the religious community."
