After work I went home and finished packing. Later in the evening we went to Leknes for supplies, then we drove to Reine and took the boat which departed at 9.30 pm. We were the only passengers...we asked the skipper if Oddvar still lived alone in Kirkefjorden and he does! Also the woman from Gothenburg is still coming every summer to the only house at Bunesstranda. There is no electricity and she has to collect her own water 1 km away. (If you haven't seen the program;
Kirkefjorden and Bunes Beach but I'm not sure if it's possible to see in every country...) There used to be two houses but the other one was blown up by a mine just at the end of the war and people died...
Vindstad - today a roadless and almost abandoned village at the head of Reinfjord. (One woman still keeps stand), but in it's time a thriving community with approximately 70-80 residents. Today mainly tourists come here in the summer for a hike over to Bunesstranda.
We arrived at Vindstad at 10 pm then we walked the dirtroad along the fjord for approximately one hour, passing the very small cemetery. We found a spot up in the pass between Vindstad and Bunesstranda. We had some rough time before we managed to pitch the tent since it was blowing up to almost gale, the ground was stonefrozen and our hands got cold. We had to use a stone to manage to get the sticks in the ground but finally we could get away from the wind and make ourselves some dinner.
