Today we got up and had breakfast while waiting for a girl that was joining today. Andrej met her at the parking lot. It was a friend of him (I think he might have a crush on her). He just said there was a misunderstanding so they were a bit late. As they arrived at the hut he told me that she did not have avalanche gear!? Don't know why he bothered to bring her then. So I had to be the bad person today and tell her that she can't come with us without gear. I could see in her eyes that she almost started crying. So sad but those are the rules we made and Andrej knows this more than anyone, since he is an instructor as well. I said they could do something else together since we are a small group we could manage without him. But apparently she wanted to be alone so we finally set off. We checked the thickness of ice as we arrived at the lake. It was safe to pass. But somehow Andrej managed to go trough the ice (!) I am not sure if it was when he was out in the middle or just at the edge but somehow he got wet. So after lunch just across the lake before ascending to the pass he said he will return to the hut because of this. So the other three of us continued on this epic journey. Just below summit snow has blown off so we had to walk the last 200 meters without skis. We skied down just before total darkness so we had headlamps on. As we arrived back to the hut we had been away for 9.5 hours so we were pretty tired. But it was cozy in the hut. Fire in the oven, candle lights on the table and taco was ready to be served! We also had three guests joining us for dinner.
