Hi!
SvarSlettAwesome pictures you have here!
I came across your blog while searching information about the conditions in Lofots. We're planning a short hiking trip there next week on Easter holiday, but it has been really hard to get info about the snow situation around the Å-kommun. Our original plan was to hike to Munkebu hut and maybe go all the way up to the Hermannsdaltinden, but apparently at least the Hermannsdaltinden is out of the question at the moment, since we have no special equipment or much mountaineering experience. What do you think about the hiking possibilities in Å around this time? Any insights and tips would be highly appreciated!

Hi Jonas, where are you from? You can walk to Munkebu without crampons but if you wanna go up Hermannsdalstinden you'll need those and axes, last part is a bit steep. I haven't been a lot around Å but you can walk around Ågvatnet, there is also a brandnew windshelter. Are you staying in tent? One of my favouritplaces are Kirkefjorden and Vindstad / Bunesfjorden. You can also start hiking from Selfjordhytta and walk over to Horseid but for most steep places you'll need crampons. Are you just staying at Å or do you have a car?
SvarSlettHeiii and thanks for the quick answer!
SlettWe’re from Helsinki Finland, driving with a car and planned to sleep in tents or at the Munkebu Hut, but if there’s no good routes to move on from Munkebu maybe we should make new plans and take one of the hikes you suggested! Ågvatnet and Kirkefjorden sounded really great ones!
We’re also open to any other suggestion you may have for the routes around Lofots or somewhere near the islands.
I’m also wondering if you know a place we could buy a map in Lofots? I’ve understood that almost every shop is closed during the Easter and we’re arriving on Friday evening. Any gas stations/shops you know that might be open and selling the maps? DNT suggested we order one in advance but I’m afraid we won’t get it in time.
Tusen takk again! Your tips are truly priceless for us!

Well Easter makes things more complicated since most places are closed that's for sure. Ferry for Kirkefjorden and Bunesfjorden are unfortunately cancelled during easter: http://www.reinefjorden.no/rutetabell.htm
SvarSlettThe only way to to Kirkefjorden then would be to walk in from Selfjorden. There is one hut (DNT-key you need to call and pickup in Leknes) also a very small windshelter otherwise tent is great. Another nice hike you can do without crampons would be Kvalvika. Don't know if you are familiar with the documentary "Nord For Sola"? Maps are probably available at gas stations and those should be open. Try Svolvær first. Nesland - Nusfjord or vice versa should also be nice (haven't been there myself though but soon). Also if you decide for Munkebu then Matkroken might be closed (I have a special number you can call in that case). If you want more info please let me know your e-mail. Otherwise good luck hiking in Lofoten!
Thanks for all your great tips, you've been really awesome helping us!
SlettWatched the trailer of "Nord For Sola", definitely gonna try to get my hands on to that movie before the trip! Looked amazing!
If it's not too much to ask, could you send the special number regarding Munkebu Hut? My e-mail is joonas.y.asukas@gmail.com.
Million thanks for being more helpful than Lofots tourist info and DNT combined! :)
Hope you have a great weekend and sunny Easter!
